War Opinion Fun

Is is too interesting that in light of all this we still wonder why the rest of the world hates us.

We are isolationist and consider ourselves all-powerful. Apparently, though, Eastern European political leaders see us as pretty power as well.

Something to think on, yes?

I think that we should just pull our troops out of every country we attempt to help and stop giving them money for food. They don't seem to want us there nor appreciate us there in the first place. We should just pull out and see what happens then. Let's pull out of S. Korea. They don't want us there. We'll leave and then N. Korea will envade. Then S. Koreans will be begging for us to come back. I don't understand why there is so much opposition to a U.S.-led war. We don't think we are all-powerfull, we only see a threat from Iraq and want to make sure that more civilian lives are not lost.

The problem, really, is not that we are isolationist, because if we were isolationist we would do the first part of what Maggie suggested, and pull out of everything everywhere. Our problem is, has been, and looks like it will continue to be that the United States is far too much non-isolationist. Yes, I understand the United States is in fact a very advanced and geopolitically powerful nation. I know that even though it is the organization's job, the UN is not able to do squat because of the way it is run (guess which nations are in charge of the disarmament committee in the UN general council...would you believe IRAN and IRAQ? That's just funnier than I could even make up). But that doesn't give us the power to just go in and do things where ever and whenever we want. We are not the world's police department. If we are, that department is more corrupt than any in recent memory. I address two key points. First off, if anyone can please show me definitive, non-political bs proof that Iraq is a direct threat to the United States, I'd appreciate it. The links between the Iraqi government and Al-Qaeda are weak at best, a more solid link can be found between some Kurdish opposition groups and the terrorist network. And the Iraq threat to the US can be summed up in one word: Israel. As long as they present a threat to Israel, we'll be having a hissy...so that way we can keep that nation and it's non-existent (BS) nukes quiet... Second, I address Maggie's concern about the civlians. That is the last thing on our government's mind, or else we are extremely hypocritical. Why do I say that? We have normal relations with Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Indonesia, China, and several other nations that all are accused of gross violations of human rights. When was the last time you heard of the US Sending troops into the Sudan, Somalia (which our last incursion eliminated the only government that country has had...it's still anarchistic, btw) Nepal, or any other nation where civilians are being slaughtered every day because they disagree with the ruling party or powers that be, or a strong rebel presence is doing far more harm than good? Why haven't we jumped more into the whole Columbian thing if we are so concerned about civilians? It's on our own continent and that's been going on for forty plus years. Okay, that's my piece. I'm not finished, but I do need to keep it moderate in length. And I don't mean to insult anyone else with my views. :) THE AR'TAK

Wow. Agian, this is a great place to learn. Thank you Maggie and The Ar'tak for both of those view points. Good Day.

I'm with Milton, I come, I read and I learn. Who could ask for more? Plus there is always something of interest posted by the wonderful Jenna. I guess that sums it up.
