Back to School

July 31, 2003 - 7:59pm

So it's that time of year again. I'm moving back to Athens.

But lucky me, I don't have to start classes for another two weeks!

I am, however, moving into an apartment over the weekend with some very cool people in the heart of downtown. And I need your help. So if you own some sort of oversized vehicle, have giant muscles (I'm looking at you, Brizzoach), or even just a giving sort of attitude, ring me up or send me an e-mail and I'll put you to work.

What do you get? My undying gratitude and friendship. And if you get me on the right day a couple of months from now I might even buy you dinner. But don't you just want to do it because you love me?

Bedtime Reading

July 31, 2003 - 1:07am

Love Test stolen from Abie's journal.

1. You are attracted to those who are unbridled, untrammeled, and free.

2. In the process of courtship, the approach that would make you feel irresistable is straight-forward, just tell you he/she loves you.

3. The impression you would like to give to your lover is optimistic.

4. What you hate most in your partner is that the person is ruthless, cold-blooded, and/or ironic.

5. The kind of relationship you would like to build with your partner is one that you care not only about the present but also the future with your partner, a long-lasting relationship that you can grow with.

6. You care about the society and morality, you won't do anything wrong after marriage.

7. You always want to get married, but in fact, you don't even know what it really is.

8. At this moment, you don't want to be tied down by a steady relationship, you just want to flirt around.

hmmm...

Blarg!

July 23, 2003 - 2:18am

I feel asleep at about 9 this evening, which would have been great and perfect if I had turned on the fan, put on my pjs or taken my medication. I hadn't done any of these things, so I woke up at midnight sweaty in my street clothes on top of the covers, my right ear throbbing like a mamma-jamma.

I knew I would keep waking up every hour on the hour if I didn't correct the situation, but I also knew that by getting up I risked not being able to go back to sleep all night. A paradox! I choose to get up briefly and take care of things and then lay back down and drift away! WaHoo.

Well, you are reading this now so you can see how well that plan worked out.

So now we are in my break from trying to go sleep. You know how if you try too hard at something, it won't work until you take a small step back from it? That's what I'm doing. Taking a step back from sleep.

I surfed around my roommates' livejournals and it made me remember how excited I am to get to live with them this fall. In contrast to a couple of weeks ago, I'm ready now for summer to be over. Sure I won't have my own room anymore, and I'll be stressed out by classes and deadlines and money, but I won't have to fight with my parents on a daily basis, I won't have to worry about gas money or a two-hour round-trip commute to work, and I'll have regained the independence that I relish so much. The awesome roommates are really just a huge bonus to all of that.

So I have a lot of preparation to do in the next couple of weeks. I have to put my name on the lease, move back to Athens, buy a bed, get my financial aid in order, and try not to hyperventilate. And thats just the tip of the iceberg.

Maybe that's why I can't sleep.

I'll be okay. I just gotta take deep breaths and dream of sexy rock stars.

Sleep sweet.

It's like the opposite of the application to date me.

Well, kinda.

No news

July 8, 2003 - 3:46am

Lester Burnham: When I was your age, I flipped burgers all summer just to be able to buy an eight-track.
Ricky Fitts: That sucks.
Lester Burnham: No, actually it was great. All I did was party and get laid. I had my whole life ahead of me.

I do not want summer to be over. I have no burning desire to get back to school. School, the way I remember it now, is stressful and depressing. It gives me chronic migraines. It doesn't leave me time to spend endless hours with friends or watch American Beauty over and over on DVD, or really think.

The decisions I make now will affect the rest of my life, or that is the propaganda. It's made me into a worrier, while being completely frozen by fear. Summer feels so static, like it will never end, and makes you feel that maybe if you put things off long enough, they will just go away.

Oh, how I wish that were true.

You Can't Always Get What You Want

July 3, 2003 - 1:40am

Current Music: Rolling Stones, guess which song
Current Mood: too wired for 1:30 in the morning

Just now I found myself wishing I had a Craftmatic Adjustable Bed, not because my sleep doesn't go well on my futon, but because it would be nice to be able to type in a lounging position. My bed sort of does a fold up thing into a chair but that does nothing for your feet, and it's not even motorized! And now that I have wireless internet it would be great to be able to journal comfortably.

Oh yes, my life is primo difficult, but somehow I still survive.

I want to launch a new frontpage, but apparently some people are really attached to the cartoony house with the fading sky and the bouncing sun and moon. That layout is going to be a year old on the 17th, and I feel it's time for something different. However, I read somewhere that you will get tired of a layout long before your visitors do, so if you are really attached to it, now would be the time to weigh in.

Or, just stay silent. Never comment at all. Cause that's productive.

40 Days and 40 Nights

This is what my yard looks like right now. If you can't tell, that's all water. It's been raining non-stop all day, and it's been dusk since 2 o'clock this afternoon.

It's that funky end-of-the-world feeling.
